Red and Russ

March 13, 2016 3 Comments

Red and Russ

By Mike Haran

A curious courtship involving a stolen bottle of liquor. Russ strikes first, jabbing a cigarette into an eye. Russ and Red then press home the attack. It is all over in a few minutes, one of the bottle thieves lying in a wreaked kitchen with a broken leg, the others frantically running down the stairs as Russ throws wild punches at their backs and at their heads.

They adjourn to Red’s minute bed-sitter. He is ecstatic as he voices the qualities of his newly acquired damsel in distress—much like an Athenian hoplite in ancient Persia after having over-run a village.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

These guys are real Punishers. You might want to explore more of their adventures, Mike. I think you could come up with a good series.

Yes that would be a good idea as they are interesting characters.
