On the scan it looks like a hollow. A black hole in the hazy cosmos of my brain, consuming unchecked for God knows how long. A constellation of missing memories that bring tears to my husband’s eyes; the star-shower way I laughed in videos, my ever-orbiting whims, all drawn into the abyss.
For my rescue mission, I am dressed in white, and I will scour the most distant reaches to bring me back.
“Count down with me, Rachel. Ten, nine, eight, seven, six…”
Lift off.
Now my head is hollow too, drifting up into the sky like a tin foil balloon.
Very descriptive and emotive. Well done.
Strong story. Title works well too and I love the beginning and how it matches the ending. Well done!
Wonderfully written and poignant!
