I close my eyes and imagine stepping off of the curb. The cars try to avoid me. The sound of screeching brakes and screaming people. The taste of blood in my mouth. One last glimpse of the faraway sky.
Pain and nothingness. That’s all there has been inside—now it’s strewn across the asphalt, for everyone to see.
Connect with yourself, my therapist says.
I connect little bits of willpower hidden in my shadows, like shiny marbles of hot metal.
I build myself back up from this liquid matter.
I open my eyes. Wait for the green light.
And walk on.
Brilliant, powerful writing. An extraordinary 101 words.
