So many hiding places. The tangle of water lily roots enshrouds me. A safe haven of sorts. Above, purple-blue flowers rise fragrant and beautiful, reaching skyward towards the shimmer. Air bubbles pop nearby. Suddenly, the movement of another koi. The orange-and-black one slides by, brusquely buffeting me. I inch further into the black tendril arms, claim my space, tuck in, and then…break free. Bursting forth to the surface, I gasp. I gulp in the glinting rays. Drawing them within, I glide below the ripples, crash through the clouds, dance around the rocks…almost masterfully. Ah, to drink in the sun.
The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler
September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific
If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.
Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.
In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.
I enjoyed reading this. A very good bit of descriptive writing which creates a mood.
Oh I love this! So visual, I could see it all happening before me. 🙂
So poetical & I could totally imagine this ….
Bravo! I love this! Surreal and exuberant.
You sure set a scene evocatively in little space!
Beautiful imagery.
