Resurrecting the Hatchet

July 9, 2024 5 Comments

By Joem Antonio

“Although Professor Ashbaum and I have always had our differences,” said Dr. Richter to his investors, “I got his widow to volunteer his body for this demonstration. Time to see if Ashbaum’s views on the afterlife change after this.”

The investors laughed nervously as they stared at the exhumed corpse of the greatest philosopher of their time.

Richter pulled the lever and the machine whirred. All eyes were on Ashbaum’s body.

A twitch. Then…nothing.

The investors began to leave.

“W-wait…” Richter stammered.

Meanwhile, Ashbaum held his breath, relishing his enemy’s humiliation. Mess with the dead and find out, he thought.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Great story, well written. Could be a preface to a longer story.

Suggestive and spooky. Could be developed into a longer piece of haunting and uncertainty.
