REUNION

By Tony Press

United 931 touches down late at SFO. Alicia has waited outside customs long enough for three difficult crosswords, plus coffee. She spots David on the overhead monitor. He looks better than anyone should after flying eleven hours. Another London triumph.

The doors swing open. She embraces him, whispers, clutches. He cannot have been expecting her but shows no surprise. Never does. He doesn’t know her real name but he knows the rest of her.

His town car speeds north to the city. She follows on her Harley but reverses course at Oyster Point and heads south, his wallet in her pocket.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Wow! That ending was totally unexpected and floored me. Great job, Tony.

I like the sense of intrigue at the end. Ever read Robley Wilson, Jr.’s “Thief”?

No, I hadn’t — but I have now! Thanks for the tip. Who knew? — the mini-genre of airport wallet-snatching.

Great line: He doesn’t know her real name but he knows the rest of her.
