Madge scurried down Hayward Avenue, the waiting taxi’s meter tallying dimes she didn’t have to spare. She arrived at the bookstore and picked up the unknown tome its proprietor had recommended to her over the phone.
She ran back to the waiting cab and gave directions to her office. She quickly tore off the brown paper wrapping, slowly revealing an embossed red pentagram on its cover. With sweaty fingers, she turned the pages of the musty book, skimming spells and incantations until she found the right one. Madge hadn’t decided yet if the word ‘love’ should be included in the conjuring.
