Rodent Infestation

February 22, 2022 7 Comments

By Logan Markko

“We got one!” I yelled up the stairs to my wife.

“Great,” she answered. “Throw it away.”

After we found droppings in the basement last week, I bought a few mousetraps, baiting each one with a piece of cheese. There would be no rodent infestation on my watch.

I squatted down to get a better look.

One of the mouse’s tiny pink paws had been crushed under the spring-loaded bar, but it was still very alive. It made a pitiful, desperate sound, dragging the trap in circles as it tried to free itself.

“Honey,” I yelled back, “Can’t you do it?”

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

How dare you undermine the idea that men are tough. 🙂

Yes, I hate those traps too. Well done describing their tiny little paws. It gets the right reaction for sure! Great job.
