By C.B. Florence
Our gazes meet, harpooning through the damp warmth of the ballroom.
A sea of bodies eddy around us in a slow motion quadrille. My heart hastens.
I tell myself it’s because my corset is too tight, not because I’ve just plunged into the untold depths of his black eyes.
Wading through the masses, he reaches for my hand. Eyes averted, I curtsy low as my fingers graze the hard outer shell of his crimson claw.
“I trust you’ve been faring well?” I inquire.
“Swimmingly,” he replies, antennules fluttering.
Fortune is smiling on me. I still have room on my dance card.
Loved it!
Thanks Scott!
Loved the way you referenced the nautical theme: harpooning, sea of bodies, eddy etc. This is carefully constructed. Well done.
Thank you, Sue!
