School Ahoy!

April 10, 2017 6 Comments

By Sivan Pillai

Dad had taken the wrong turn, but I didn’t ask him why. I was cross with him.

I felt uncomfortable in the new uniform. It would be my first day in school, and I wished Roy was with me.

“No uniforms in my school,” he had told me.

It was a school patronized by the poor.

“Can’t Roy join my school?” I had asked Dad one day. The response was a belated grunt.

I was jolted out of my reverie. The car had stopped suddenly.

Roy came running toward us. He was all smiles and wearing the same uniform as mine.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.
