Scrabble with her dad was the highlight of her day.
“Haughty.”
“How on earth did you think of that?”
“Mum says it sometimes. She says you are h, a, u, g, h, t, y when you say you don’t like her paintings.”
“I never say I don’t like your mum’s paintings!”
She put down her letters.
“D, r, e, a, r, y. Dreary. That’s what you said it was.”
“Yes. I suppose that was s, i, l, l, y, of me, wasn’t it?”
“Yes. You also said it was crap.”
“You listen too closely, Millie.”
“You don’t listen closely enough, Daddy.”
Brilliant — a wonderful vignette.
Fairly true to life. I liked it.
Terrific story. It works so well, all in dialogue, bravo.
you can learn a lot while playing the game.
Great story!
I loved the last line: “You don’t listen closely enough, Daddy.”
Never underestimate the power of Scrabble.
Thank you for all the lovely comments!
