Seashore

September 23, 2020 5 Comments

By B. K. Bolen

The waves continue to wash ashore. I see them crashing against a sea-side rocky cliff, splashing white foam. Now, they’re nearing. Mist-like droplets strike me, peeling away the harsh sunray’s damage before receding. Looking up, I see seagulls flying in an indigo sky. I hear them talking. But I don’t understand their melodic cadences. In the evening, pinkish crabs nibble at my feet, looking for sustenance. The waves come again. I feel small fish tickle my sides.

The ocean announces, “It’s time.”

As I wait, one final wave engulfs me. I begin to disintegrate into nothingness, one grain at a time.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Brian, this story has such emotion to it. Many of your decriptors have a sensual feel about them even though the surf can be harsh at times it also has a soft delicate way about it. You have come up with yet another wonderful story.
