She and I

She and I

By Alyssa Telgenhoff

When I first met my wife, I told her…

that all I’ve ever wanted was to be a father, to have a family; a normal life. I think about our wedding day often. Her creamy dress; objectively beautiful. Our wedding night, red lace, silky white sheets, and… nothing. I felt nothing. I feel absolutely nothing.

I never told her I was unhappy. My future sealed, my feelings forgotten. Life isn’t about being happy. It’s about responsibilities, soccer games, and ignoring the stabbing pain of what you really want.

Settling is my dark secret. I never thought it would be this harrowing.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Ah, the bitter taste of familiarity. I don’t think life should be about compromise, even if society enforces it upon us.
Unhappiness only begets more unhappiness. One difficult lesson I experienced first hand. I really enjoyed the story. Thumps up:)

Great example of the downside of marriage–especially being married to the wrong one for a lifetime!

This is a very true reality. It’s interesting how much we give up, for instance our own happiness, just to live the day to day life everyone else is doing too.
