She Inspires Him

She Inspires Him

By Josh Craven

Michael winced at the ragged, bloody knuckles on his throbbing right fist. He’d felt something in his hand snap, and now he couldn’t bend his ring finger or quivering pinky. He wadded up his left hand and smacked her again, tasting the coppery spray that landed on his lips when Lucy’s nose went sideways.

“Michael! I said take out the trash, you worthless pencil-dick!”

Her voice snatched him from his daydream.

“Yes, dear,” he said, leaping from his recliner.

“And why the hell are you looking at me that way, you fat slob?”

He just smiled and balled up his fist.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

wow, this is an uncomfortably powerful image (meaning that you wrote it very, very well)
