Shifting Shapes

October 29, 2024 2 Comments

By Anya Chanel

Startlingly, I get approached on the street by a rabid dog, foam oozing from its mouth. An old, ragged cloth hangs from dirty, matted fur. Recognition hits me immediately.

“Hello, old friend. It’s nice to see that you’ve been making good use of your time off. Catch any wild animals lately?”

With a knowing glance around, another dribble of drool and foam cascades to the concrete below. The dog turns around and chases after a sound in the distance. As he reaches the corner of Timber and 3rd Street, a man takes the place of where the dog had once been.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.
