Sleeping

May 15, 2026 4 Comments

By Lynn Kerman

He heard her get out of bed and he smiled sleepily. She would be suiting up to go, as she always ran first thing in the morning. His body relaxed as he thought of how her steady presence so helped him over the years to feel peaceful. She, the guiding force for his sanctuary. What would he have done without her? He was so grateful they built this life together.

He didn’t know about the suitcase hidden in the closet. As she closed the front door, he wasn’t disturbed as he fell back to sleep, faintly hearing a car starting outside.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Nicely done! Great twist. I expected the narrator to be a dog waiting for her return. Yours is so much better. Good job!
