Hannah’s heart raced as she walked into the cafeteria to have lunch with her co-workers. After hiding her intermittent depression for years, she finally gathered the courage to talk about it and felt ready to reveal her authentic self. She couldn’t help worrying though because she knew the stigma against mental illness still existed, and she might be judged harshly.
Hannah’s face lit up when she saw how receptive her friends were and was more than happy to answer all of their questions. A co-worker wiped the smile off her face when he asked, “Why can’t you just snap out of it?”
Everyone with depression has been asked the same question. This is very well-written and perceptive.
Some people just don’t understand for whatever reason. Good story!?
I understand completely. It’s like having lifelong debilitating migraines and being told to take a couple of Tylenol and get over it.
Wouldn’t it be great if that could be done? Thank you for your story.
Thanks so much for all your comments. They are very much appreciated.
So Well written and a very important message.
Awareness ,Education Advocacy & Support are needed-It takes courage to come forth rather than pretend or suffer in silence.
Mental illness -Including anxiety , depression and PTSD is misunderstood & there are too many who are narrow minded, misjudge , minimize & victimize.
