Speck of Dust

February 28, 2026 2 Comments

By Abby Garmon

Fernando,

I simply cannot bear to live with the tarnished memories of our failed union. My thoughts haunt me day and night, with only the salt of my tears to distract me.

I’ve located a hypnotist to remedy the problem. His talent is truly beyond measure, as I hear he once deflated a gentleman’s ego with only the snap of his fingers.

Perhaps a visit would be worthwhile for you as well.

By the time you receive this letter, you’ll be long forgotten, your memory a speck of dust, swept from the darkest corners of my brain.

Yours no longer,

Elizabeth

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

A letter such as this one could deflate a man’s ego in the snap of your fingers. Brilliant!
