Stalking

June 11, 2022 2 Comments

By Scott B. Blanke

The alpha male eyed his prey across the expanse. Game milled around the only watering hole, a huddle of delicious bodies. His target never noticed her danger.

The male paused to groom his furry chest before slinking behind his pack.

Still, he approached via a circuitous route, pausing often to lurk down and freeze.

He crept up behind the most succulent of the group. Her strong scent carried across the open space.

His nostrils flared with excitement. He puffed out his massive chest, licked his lips, and returned to his grooming.

Finally, the hungry predator pounced: “Hey babe, what’s your sign?”

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Clever, with good descriptive content. “delicious bodies”, “most succulent” were great. Last line is wonderful!

I was anticipating a twist at the end and was rewarded for reading all the way through. Thanks for the smile this morning!
