Starting Monday

July 7, 2021 2 Comments

By Raymond Sloan

Every week, Tom promised Jess he’d change. This time. For good. “Starting Monday,” he’d say.

No more boozing and berating her for things he’d never remember. For a long time, she believed him. Like Mum used to believe Dad.

One Sunday after a hard two-day binge, Tom drained his glass and started for home. On the way, he picked a fight with a passing car and never came round.

When Jess heard the news, she broke down, weeping for the life she never thought possible. Starting Monday.

First thing she did was bring Mum shopping, trading in her beat-up ol’ car.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Well written… definitely describes how hard it is for non-alcoholics…
