
Hayley jumped back from the crosswalk, shaken. The car turned as though she hadn’t even been there. Texting crazies.
She waited until the road was completely clear before she crossed. She joined the crowd in the donut shop, which was more a mass of people than a line. Dodging arms and boots, she finally reached the counter, where the cashier took the order of the tall man behind her.
Frustrated, she slid out and walked to the grocery store. It wasn’t until the automatic doors ignored her that it hit home. She was invisible.
Hayley grinned. She’d finally become a superhero.
