The pretty café has a beautiful art deco sign over the frontage, which miraculously survived the ravages of the second World War.
I sometimes ask to sit at the table by the window—but am always told it’s reserved for Camille. The table’s set for two, with a single white rose in a smoked vase.
At precisely 11 a.m. an elegant, elderly lady quietly slips in, seats herself by the window and waits. The waitress brings her a cup of steaming coffee, as she sits in a thoughtful haze.
She leaves, as unassumingly as she came, leaving behind a sigh of history.
Very wistful.
