Sammy waves. Smiles.
Hands clap.
Her feet grip the hard steps, then dance out along the diving board to throw her over the edge.
Deep breath. Feet kick, legs twist, back arches, board slaps back into shape overhead. Lungs explode with the jerk. Her body arrows into the water, clean cut, not a ripple.
Shouts, applause, muffle into the background as Sammy goes in deep. Then stops. Knees fold up into her breasts, arms cuddle herself into place, chest grows silent, heaving fades to a sigh.
Sammy closes her eyes, smiles. Darkness breathes silence. She will never break the surface again.
That’s one way to end it all in one spectacular act! Liked it.
