Laughter rang round the allotment as I watched children wearing brightly coloured wellingtons filling buckets from a large water trough.
A fleeting shadow around my compost heap caught my eye. Admiring its patience and agility, I watched as a camouflaged feline stalked a small rodent. Silent prayers the endeavour would be fruitless evaporated when the feline appeared with bloody prey hanging limp from its mouth.
The serenity broken by nature’s cruel streak, and the sound overhead of police helicopters chasing young offenders, I head home, appreciative but saddened by the beauty and cruelty in the inner landscape of the human spirit.
Well noted.
I have a similarly predatory dog. I don’t mind him chasing the rats under the bird table (he only ever caught one and was very efficient – a quick shake broke its neck and it was still) but I hope he never manages to catch a squirrel.
But that’s nature.
Shame about the feral kids though.
That’s life! Well done.
Words to think upon, thank you!
Sad but it happens. Strange the police sirens were heard overhead when you caught sight of the dead prey.
