The Alarm Sounds

The Alarm Sounds

By Fabian Broeker

The alarm sounds. I wake up. I roll over, kiss her forehead, and leave the house.

The alarm sounds. I wake up. I roll over, kiss her cold forehead, and leave the house.

The alarm sounds. I wake up. I cover my nose, press my lips to her flesh, and leave the house.

The smell wakes me. I look at her dead blue eyes, roll her over, and leave the house.

The bed is rotting; her decay spreads to me. I kick the gun under the bed.

I place her body on the floor. Am I the corpse, or is she?

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

True love indeed! Perhaps a murder suicide endng would be even better. But then who’d tell the story. Perhaps a bloody red Paste-It stuck on the front door. Jerry
