The Bald Truth

October 23, 2021 6 Comments

By Archibald Hobbs

Sitting in the barber’s chair, Theodore introduced himself to the apprentice hairdresser and recited the same instruction he had given for thirty years, “Square at the back, thanks, and part from left to right.”

Isabel froze, her electric razor buzzing near his ear. The mirror revealed girlish amusement in her eyes, stubborn determination in Theo’s, and a blinding light reflecting from his sparsely populated, white dome. Isabel covered her mouth with her free hand. But it was no use. Her laughter could not be quelled.

Leaning forward, Theo peered at his reflection, then laughed with her. “Okay, just shave it off.”

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

I’m glad I still have enough hair to comb, white and thin though it may be!
