The trees cast a cool shade.
Rose wheeled her brother down the country road.
That’s when they saw the horse.
“Should we help it up?” Rosa asked.
“It doesn’t look like it would help.”
“Maybe it can get up, Colt.”
“That’s not likely.”
They looked at the horse lying on the ground, neighing.
“Its legs are broken,” Colt said.
The horse neighed in pain as it tried to get up.
“Hand me my shotgun, Rosa.”
“It’s trying, that’s worth something?”
“We’re doing the right thing.”
“What if you’re wrong?” Rosa looked at him.
“Believe me, I’m not.” Colt aimed and fired.

Story about animals are my soft spot. Ever since Black Beauty and White Fang I can’t read one without my eyes stinging like hell. Good story, but tragic.
