I sit facing you and pretend to be excited. You smile. l know it’s another ‘no’ for me but I can’t be blunt. I sip on the fizzy drink and taste the French fries I shouldn’t be taking. I ask questions and your answers rile me. Later, I smile and thank you for lunch. I know I won’t be seeing you again.
That night, before dozing off, I feel the heartburn. My phone loudly alerts me of a text message, ‘I loved everything about you.’ I turn around and vomit into my trash can where I had tossed your unopened gift.
You have an excellent gift of story telling. I am looking forward to the next story.
Thank you. I’m encouraged to write more stories.
Brutal but fascinating
It is a well-told story and a rather sad one.
I loved this one.
