Carmen stumbled on something in the backyard while serving Mrs. Davenport her tea, wondering, What was that?
She looked down but didn’t hear the rattle until it was too late. The snake bit them both. Terrified, Carmen called 911, consoling Mrs. Davenport until the ambulance approached.
Dr. Allison Williams was on duty at the hospital when the women arrived. With enough anti-venom for only one patient, she phoned the hospital administrator for a decision. He told her, in no uncertain terms, “Save the one who has insurance.”
Dr. Williams kissed her job good-bye as she injected the anti-venom into Carmen’s arm.
That’s brilliant.
well done!
So much said in so few words. Powerful story and, unfortunately, so true. A difficult time to be a medical professional.
I enjoyed this. I wonder if a National Health Service might be a good idea 🙂
Tough choices that need to be made when no one wants to have that responsibility. Brave and relevant, Peggy!
Great story!
Great commentary o nsociety and character,
