We scraped out the tunnel for months, us digging upward, the greedy British imperialists shovelling down. “We’ll meet them halfway,” our leader barked. “It will be glorious!”
I was at the front when we finally broke through. The stone crumbled away, the flash of a torch briefly blinding me.
“What the hell?” a human trembled.
I squinted at the man then lunged, clamping my jaws around his soft pale face. My teeth crunching through bone as I tore away his head.
“Glorious!” I snarled and my co-workers cheered from the darkness. Together we clambered toward the spear of daylight revealed above.
My goodness. I wasn’t expecting that.
I love unexpected horror!!
