Henry opened the door.
Rachel sat in a wicker chair on the porch, sipping her afternoon tea, smiling blissfully into the last warm rays of the season.
Henry sighed in relief, then sat down next to her.
He watched her for a moment, unsure where to begin. But she came to his rescue.
“Of all the things you’ve witnessed,” she asked, pouring him a cup as well. “This is the door you chose?”
Henry smiled at the secret delight under her disbelief.
“How could I choose any other?”
He squeezed her hand, as they turned their eyes to the ever-setting sun.
A wonderfully well crafted story, I loved the way it unfolds to the beautiful ending.
Love the prose. A moment was all that was needed
That was beautiful and perfect.
