The Drink

October 14, 2023 2 Comments

By Chris Lihou

The drink mirrored its drinker, a brittle receptacle holding a fiery spirit. Jane had the urge to feel the drink’s throat burn and then smash the glass at some distant target. There would be no more romantic evenings, no more vocal releases of endorphins. He’d decided his wife was the only one.

Looking up, Jane noticed Mr. Handsome smiling at the end of the bar. Returning his lustful gaze, she accepted his refill the bartender proffered. She downed its contents, signed her bill, and wrote ‘Thanks. Room 207’ on her business card that she placed beside Mr. Handsome as she departed.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.
