Heavy barbeque smoke thins to the pungent acrid haze of Independence Day fireworks. This day of brass band patriotism, colorful flags and bunting, of picnics and reunions yields a celebratory evening of community gatherings. The night sky illuminates in glittery multi-dimensional bursts sculpted by sound and color.
Illegal fireworks reenact rebellious origins…pervasive, overt demonstrations of lawless freedom. Flagrant acts of civil disobedience symbolically liberating ‘we the people’ from the constraints of ‘we the government.’
No speeches, no signs, no organized movement for permanent political change, just a temporary suspension of the rules before returning to business as usual.
It’s revolutionary!
LOL – I love it. I’ve never thought of it that way before, but you are absolutely right!

One of the best opening lines I’ve read in a while! Insiteful take on the 4th too. 🙂
Great visual of the 4th of July. Insightful take on we the people too!
Great, interesting story. Another reason to love watching the fireworks.
