Rudy was a big talker, which often irritated people.
He slipped into our dorm room one evening, hair looking like it had been cut with a sharpened eggbeater. But he wouldn’t talk about it.
Later that evening, I learned that at dinner, one of Rudy’s frat brothers talked about a fellow in a different frat house who shaved his head for forty dollars.
Without thinking, Rudy piped up, “Heck, I’d do it for twenty-five.”
His frat brothers immediately slapped money on the table and tackled Rudy as he made for the door. It wasn’t a good cut, but it was effective.
Lesson learned?
Somehow I pity Rudy. He is a bigger talker, and he said that he would do it.
However, there are three very obvious things:
1. His Frat brother’s clearly knew he was just saying that without any actual intention to go through with it.
2. They did it forcefully, and did not even cared to do a good job.
3. It was basically a humiliation ritual. Rudy was somehow affected by it, since he went silent.
Overall, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It is a moral grey area type of piece and I am actually surprised there aren’t more comments on here.
