It was a routine thing. The police gave the hobo a basic state-sponsored funeral.
Then they found the rag-bag hidden in the wall cavity nearby. It was filthy and smelly. No one wanted to touch it.
“We should have got rid of it with the guy,” someone commented wryly.
Jason was always the one for such jobs, and he reluctantly opened the bag.
“Maybe there’s a million dollars inside!” another constable teased.
Under the dirty rags Jason found some old notebooks.
They were filled with songs. Handwritten notations. Some had never seen the light of day; others were still very popular.
Devastatingly beautiful.
