The hog was loose on the grass and Dad was playing a song about a woman breaking her man’s heart because she wouldn’t let him drink.
I asked Daniel if he thought the hog had a human face.
“He’s been around the block,” he said.
We went over to the hog who made a rough sound that I took to mean welcome. He had a thick beard and smelt of bread.
“Mom ain’t coming back,” Daniel said. “She’s had enough of Dad.”
Daniel and I stroked the hog’s whiskers.
Dad made a sort of animal wail then started the song over.
Is it my imagination, or do the hog and the boys’ dad have a lot in common? Got a chuckle out of this one! Nice job.
