“Daddy,” she whimpered, pulling the pink blanket up to her face, stopping just under her wide and watery blue eyes. “There is a monster in the room.”
“I know, darling.”
“In the closet.” She pointed, tiny finger trembling.
“No, dear. It’s not.”
“I’m scared, Daddy.”
The light clicked off and the man walked out, closing the door behind him.
His wife lay twisted up in the blankets of the bed they shared. From where he stood in the hallway, he could see the pool of blood creep across the mattress.
“And now there is a monster in the hallway.”
