They lack the dexterity needed to thread a needle but they can cradle and feed an infant. They move slowly, their whirring titanium joints following commands with deliberate action.
The infants they care for have the look of Neanderthals. Like their parents, their brains are grossly underdeveloped. The robots grade them, like so many eggs, for their potential in performing prescribed tasks. They are bred for the flexibility and agility required to create more artificial intelligence. They are all that is left of the human race.
Forever reproduced, incapable of rebellion, these beings are now forever slaves to their own invention.
