The long-anticipated August night of 1993. We girls sit on the terrace of the university hostel, sharing stories of our loves, tucked warmly into our comforters, awaiting the celestial show.
Past midnight, fireballs paint momentary streaks of neon green, purple, and pink across the northern skies and in our minds and keep our hearts racing until dawn.
I wish I would meet my soulmate soon. Across the distances you wish the same. We meet finally in 1999.
Now, tucked in a blanket on the terrace, my head resting in your arms, we watch meteors shooting across the firmament and give thanks.
