You watch others emerge from their desks, stand proud to receive accolades.
Donβt you deserve to be appreciated for your diligence and commitment? You start early, leave late, and work through lunch, but each week you applaud someone else.
You strive harder, desperate for recognition. You take work home, toil until the early hours. You forget to eat, to sleep, to wash.
When your name’s finally called, you take your place, eager for the deserved ovation.
The room is silent. Barely a head raises in acknowledgement. You slip back into the shadows.
Everyone grown bored of it, the pedestal is removed.
Nice one. The sad reality of corporate life. Perhaps time for the character to rebalance and start focussing on themselves.
Thanks David. I hope they have too π
This is very good if rather sad.

Unfair! Sad, true and poignant. A perfect little story.

Striving for recognition in 101 words. Great writing on the quest.
Thank you Toni
You have got the pathos just right
It is affecting without being maudlin.
Thanks David, glad you like it π
Isn’t that just the way of all things?
Do things for oneself – hang the accolades!
So true Paulene
Yes, oh, yes. Search for more, and better. Thank you.

Thanks Sandra π
Yes, sometimes the most deserving get unrewarded. But sometimes, recognition for your work is all you want, not accolades.
