After leaving a trail of broken hearts from Biloxi all the way to Pascagoula, LouAnn decided that was not enough to show the folks back home just who she really was. So she went to rob the Kwik-E-Mart with a big purse and a pistol.
She waited in the parking lot until there were no customers, then sashayed in like summer rain.
But the guy behind the counter, wearing round-rimmed glasses and a gray sweater, reading a dog-eared Kafka paperback, 10:30 on a Tuesday night, looked up amused and murmured, “Gosh, you sure are beautiful!”
And that was all she wrote.
Any story with a dog-eared copy of a Kafka book gets my vote. Nice job.
