The Reading

By Anna Sanderson

The runes tumbled from Susan’s nervous fingers, landing on the silky white cloth below. Her desperate eyes watched me read, impatient for answers. I kept her waiting, slowly studying the half-familiar story.

“You were right to let him go,” I said finally. “He’s never getting divorced.”

When Susan left, the runes remained, staring at me in judgement.

“What? I didn’t lie,” I reasoned. “Not entirely!”

They seemed to speak back: Nor did you tell the truth.

They were right, of course. The runes said Susan was the one destined to be with my husband. But I‘d never tell her that.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Interesting. Divining method? Is it an occultic practice? Are the runes real alphabets? Raises lots of questions.
