The audience was enjoying every minute.
As a stand-up comedian, you dream about nights like these. I’d felt for some time that the decision to quit my job had been the right one.
It had been risky, but after getting more and more gigs, I’d finally taken the plunge and resigned. Redundancies had been mentioned, anyway. Like many places these days, the warehouse became totally automated.
So that’s why I had to laugh. Every joke was original and brilliantly constructed; all the punchlines were perfectly timed.
And I was forced to admit that Dave, the world’s first Comedybot, was very funny.
Nice, I loved the twist at the end.
Yeah, normally end twists are either held back too long or they spoil what you had. But this time, it was just right. Bittersweet, but so inevitable that one still swallows, it’s a truth we all have to face, and this makes you feel that bit less alone to do it.
