“I’m pregnant,” the voice on the phone said.
James held the receiver. His mind raced back to that night.
Ashley had been buying him drinks all night. She stuck her tongue in his mouth, and they made a quick dash for a taxi.
“I like Hitler,” she said. “He had real power over people.”
James’s thoughts slurred. A blur of lights flew by; he remained silent.
“That’s my building.” Ashley pointed. They exited the taxi and went up the elevator to her apartment.
Four Chihuahuas greeted him. Ashley poured glasses of wine. James didn’t have any condoms.
“Are you there, James?”
One drink too many and history repeats. While I can understand, in the circumstances, a man’s weakness re the Hitler worship – to continue on after seeing the four chihuahuas – unforgivable. [Actually, the four chihuahuas made a good snippet great.]
Keep up the good work.
A very realistic “slice of life” flash fiction story. Good job.
I really felt for the character James. Poor guy…on the other hand maybe just dumb? Very realistic, and I like what you did with the flashback.
