We have our first online date. He sets his Zoom background to a sunset. I go with a fireplace.
“Lavender or vanilla?”
Lavender, I answer. His face crumples; vanilla is such a scrumptious smell. But my son loved lavender.
“OK, then. Ginger or garlic?”
A lateral move, going from scent to taste, but the difference covers so many brain cells I applaud the effort.
“Garlic.” No surprise, my parents are French.
I wait for the real question, the one he wants to throw at me like a third pitch with teeth. Top or bottom, I’m sure.
“Lace or leather?” he asks.
Enjoyed it. Great last line.
Great combination of funny and creepy. Kinda defines life in a Zoom world.
Haha – so glad I don’t have to be in the dating world. This encapsulates everything I would dread about it. “Leather or lace?” That’s when I would end the meeting!
Intriguing and with a neat twist ending.
