Kate entered through the side gate, still unlatched after she’d left in a hurry. She missed the sight of Coco bounding up, her tail wagging furiously.
Behind a creaking screen door, she found the backdoor unlocked, just as she expected. Inside, two mugs of tea stood untouched on the counter.
She replayed her actions from yesterday. After making tea, she’d waited. By 7 p.m., when Tony hadn’t returned from walking Coco in the woods, she’d flung on her coat and headed out into the fading light to look for him.
If she had called the police instead, she’d still be alive.
Great twist at the end! I really enjoyed the whole piece. Nicely done.
I agree with Mary. I enjoyed the twist at the end.
ohh – sad Great story!
Thanks for taking the time to read and comment.
Loved it as would M Night Shyamalan! An ending so subtle and so unexpected. Great job!
