Thirty years operating a tire bead machine has numbed his hands. Myron repetitively flexes seeking relief.
“Hands tinglin’?” Wendell questions. “You got carpel tunnel.”
“Operation ’l put me off the job, on benefits. Family can’t live on workers’ comp,” allows Myron.
“Sure you can’t bid another job?”
“Yeah, I’m sure. I got’a go for the rotating crane. The accidental death benefits will get the family through. It’s easy to set up, others done it.”
“Got’a be another way.”
“Yeah, walk in front of a bus,” allows Myron.
“How much time you allowing?”
“Soon’s I scrounge up the guts.” Myron’s hands flex.
