Tommy

By Jeffrey Paolano

In Walmart, Tommy finds the input, the content, and the socialization that allows for retention of his lucidity as he thwarts his creeping dementia. A kerfuffle disturbs Tommy’s cogitations. Smartphones flash photographs of a prone body. He straddles the body, yells “Call 9-1-1!”

With his left hand on the cataleptic chest and his right on top of the left, he pumps keeping pace with “Stayin’ Alive.”
Tommy melts into the crowd when the EMTs arrive, avoiding the scribes who, in his cynical opinion, never take action but insist on noting all the details.

Tommy blissfully remains in possession of his chutzpah.

The Power of Imagery with Nina Schuyler

September 12 & 13 on Zoom
Enrollment closes Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM Pacific

If your descriptions are vivid but your stories still feel thin, this workshop is for you.

Join award-winning author Nina Schuyler to learn the difference between description, which tells a reader what things look like, and imagery, which carries plot, character, and meaning at the same time.

In just two days, you'll learn to choose images that hold emotion without naming it, pair them so each one deepens the other, and build patterns that gather meaning as the story moves.

Hey, wonderful, Jeffrey! Especially like the image of the guy pumping away in time with “Stayin’ Alive”! Pretty close to brilliant!
