After the night’s rain, the morning air was crisp and clean and full of promise. The man guided his minivan up the dirt road, bumping through the shallow potholes and avoiding deep ones. He passed the old side road leading north. He always wondered where it led. Today is going to be different, he thought.
He had replaced his line and his old floats and weights and snelled hooks with new ones. His worms were fresh and juicy. “Surely today I will catch a fish,” he said to himself.
He drove the road leading home at dusk. Maybe tomorrow, he thought.
Ah, the sad song of so many fishermen. Especially in my family.
mmm…is it really about fishing, though?
Nice gentle tale. Liked his optimism.
alas, he is a fool.
thanks for commenting.
Sounds like my DH. He always claims the fish are right there, laughing at him!
Fishing is all about hope, faith, and the belief that the next cast will be the one.
