When I was young I was always dreaming of the lost and legendary places. Atlantis. The Seven Cities of Cibola. The time I spent reading about those fabled lands! El Dorado, Avalon, Oz . . .
Atlantis? What was I thinking? That I’d go there and live happily forever with a mermaid?
God, what a dimwit. Shambhala, Camelot. In all that time, did it ever occur to me that I was already there?
Obviously not. Browsing the library yesterday, I picked up a book on the Lost City of Z.
Tonight my wife is asking me, “What’s this ticket to Brazil?”
Can I come with you? I’ll carry the luggage.
